Your Shelter Dog
Shelter dogs got to be shelter dogs because someone didn't want them. Sometimes that's because the dog's owner comes on financial hard times. Maybe she or he loses their job and maybe even their house. Maybe they have to move to another state. Maybe they even die, and no one else in the family wants to take the dog. Anyone working at an animal shelter has will tell you that there are a lot of reasons why folks say they can no longer keep the dog. But the real reason is most likely that the dog was just being a dog who wasn't receiving much guidance and whose behavior over time became really obnoxious. Most shelter dogs becomeĀ shelter dogs because their owners have no idea how to make them fitĀ comfortably into a human household.
If you've just adopted a shelter dog, it's likely he has "issues". The fact is that this would be true even if your new dog isn't from a shelter. Your new dog doesn't know you. He isn't familiar with your house or your yard, or your rules. And believe me, not everyone has the same rules for dogs! This blog is aimed at teaching you, how to help your dog be a well behaved member of your family.
